5p Shopping Bag Charge - Job Losses.

The UK government brought in the 5p charge on plastic carrier bags from the shops to try and stop pollution.
There has been over a 70% drop for people requiring carrier bags from the supermarkets since this charge came in force.
Now a plastic bag manufacturer has gone bust and put 40 workers on the scrapheap.
The shops have given away shopping bags for free for as long as we can remember.
Nice move (not) by the government then by forcing us to pay for things we never had to before.

I refuse to buy the 5p carrier bags.
I have ones from before they started charging and I will reuse them like I always have done.
When they all wear out then I will still refuse to pay and struggle with the shopping - simple!

I don't pay the 5p charge to advertise the shops.
They could have said if the carrier bag is advertising its exempt.
All charges for carrier bags should be dropped or at least if they have to sell them they could be plain with no advertising.

Other parts of the UK have been charging the 5p for carrier bags for a long time and a similar drop in demand happened there.
