New Planet Discovered - Proxima B
A new planet has been discovered relatively close to Earth that could possibly harbour life.
Its star or sun is called Proxima Centauri which is only 4.2 light years away.
Scientists believe that the new planet called Proxima B is in the goldilocks zone in its solar system.
That means that should other conditions be right then life could have taken a hold there.
No doubt there will be a lot more detailed focus on this planet over the next few years.

It will be decades before the analyse the data for this new planet so lets not get carried away.
We wont get to it for thousands of years even if there was a remote chance that it could support human life.

Just a few years ago we never knew that any star or sun shall we say had any orbiting planets.
Now they are being discovered right, left and centre.
I think a lot of them are being discovered because of the 'wobble' that the star does.
Even such a small orbiting planet has an effect over a massive start and its this that they can detect.
The planets are so small and are hard to actually see, especially since their own sun will make this worse.
Seeing a planet in another solar system that is light years away is going to be very difficult.
Imagine what its going to be like trying to find objects that are at distances we can't quite grasp
This is what our own Earth looks like from Mars:

I wonder if our technology advances so much that we can actually tell if there is another world similar to ours that we can colonise.

It will be a sterile rock

Re: New Planet Discovered - Proxima B
Finding habitable planets in the universe is going to be almost impossible.
It would be like passing a grain of sand to someone and telling them to hide it on a beach somewhere on Earth and then looking for it.

Its a rock for sure.
Doesn't it take only 8 days to go round its sun.
If that is the case the inhabitants will get rather dizzy quicker than us

I will not be reading any newspapers today, its my day off!
Re: New Planet Discovered - Proxima B
It makes you wonder if any intelligent life has discovered Earth!
We have had life on Earth for billions of years so any intelligent life out there within billions of light years away could detect us with the right technology.
I would expect that if mankind survives for another billion years we would be able to detect some other life out there.
