Milk 'use-by' dates should be scrapped

Milk 'use-by' dates should be scrapped

According to campaigners we should be using the 'sniff test' and we would save 100 million pints every year.
Apparently that's the amount we are throwing away each year for no reason other than a date on the bottle.
Not sure about everyone else but I always use the sniff test on all my food stuff ;)

I have always used the sniff test on everything I eat and drink.
Those sell-by and use-by dates are only a guide in reality.

Use-by dates are a guide.
I have known much of my food going off before these dates and much that have lasted long after.
Yes, we should all use the sniff-test all the time.
Stop waste!

I always ignore the 'use-by' dates on food. If it looks and smells good, it's edible so eat it.
And more to the point...................

I eat it if it looks good and smells ok. We have always done this surely. However, sometimes when you put milk in your tea that is off you tend to get floaters. The negative side of this is you need to boil the kettle again and possibly waste sugar depending on how you make the tea.

I tend to know when food is off, I can't ever remember looking at the 'use-by' dates.

Same here. Sometimes mouldy bread can put me off though. Once I see green mould on the bread I check it all and use it there and then if I can.
David Bowie has died - what more can I say
